A typical complete project involves:
- Parts & Components:
- Capacitors: All electrolytics are replaced, Al with fresh Panasonic NHG, Tantalums with either fresh Tantalums or Panasonic FC or NHG depending on the voicing required.
- Resistors: All resistors are checked and carbon resistors present in the signal path are usually swapped for metal units. Sealed rotary resistors networks (ie. ISA 110) usually need to be replaced if noise develops.
- Potentiometers, faders: All pots are cleaned, some will have to be replaced; modern pots are typically much better.
- ICs: Fresh high quality units are fitted, upgrades are sometimes possible depending on power supply headroom.
- Diodes: Power diodes are checked and replaced with higher power units if any sign of stress is apparent.
- Transformers: Unless needed (fault, stress...) original transformers are left in.
- Transistors: Unless needed (fault, stress...) original transistors are left in.
- Labour:
- General handling: Experience, attention to detail, rigour and dedication to obtaining superior performance prevail.
- Cleaning: Systematic PCB clean and deflux before last check as well as case and connectors, knobs and faders.
- Final test: Final check, power up, burn in for at least 2 hours and final calibration before further burn-in.
